Clay Target Club "Waitemata"
About
Waitemata Clay Target Club is one of the largest shooting ranges for clay target shooting in New Zealand, located on a 20-hectare site at 465 Old North Road, Kumeu, approximately 25 minutes from downtown Auckland. The club is a member of the New Zealand Clay Target Association (NZCTA) and is a regular participant in national competitions.
The range offers four disciplines of clay target shooting: DTL (Down the Line), skeet, Olympic trap, and compact sporting. Training sessions for all four disciplines are held every Saturday at 10:00 AM; general practice takes place every Wednesday at 10:00 AM; and club competitions are held every second Sunday. The club also organizes series competitions: the Waitemata ISSF Trap Series (WTS) and the Waitemata Grand Prix for DTL and skeet, as well as the club championship for ball trap. The WTS series is conducted using a handicap system over 75 targets per round; the WGP series for skeet follows the format of "best 6 scores out of 10" over 100 targets.
The club's infrastructure includes modern equipment, spacious parking, and a fully licensed clubhouse. The club hosts corporate events and group shoots for beginners, as well as youth introductory courses for shooters aged 12–18. Coaching sessions are organized at the committee's discretion. The range is open to shooters of all levels—from first-time shooters to those preparing for provincial and national championships.
