Staten Island Sportsmen's Club
About
Staten Island Sportsmen's Club — a shooting range for clay target shooting, located at 170 Bloomfield Avenue in Staten Island, New York. The club has been in existence since 1936 and is the only trap club within New York City, making it a unique hub for clay target shooting for residents of all five boroughs.
The range specializes exclusively in ABT. Officially registered series under the auspices of the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) are held every Sunday, provided there are at least three shooters participating, in accordance with ATA rules. Trophy competitions are announced through the club's newsletter.
The club is primarily open to members; however, the first visit is allowed without membership. Members of New Jersey trap clubs may also visit the range on operating days.
Participation requires a valid NYC shotgun permit, a personal smoothbore shotgun (barrel no less than 26 inches, no pistol grip), and ammunition with shot sizes #7.5, 8, or 9 (no more than 3 dram or 1290 fps). Shotgun rentals and ammunition sales are not provided. A safety officer accompanies new shooters and conducts safety and basic trap instruction. Occasionally, a kitchen operates at the range. The range is suitable for both beginners and experienced shooters preparing for ATA competitions.
