Schießsportzentrum Suhl (SSZ) GmbH
About
Schießsportzentrum Suhl (SSZ) GmbH is the Olympic, federal, and state center for shooting sports in the federal state of Thuringia, located in the city of Suhl on the outskirts of the traditional gunsmith city, amidst the greenery of the Thuringian Forest. The shooting range, covering 27 hectares, has been operational since 1971 and is a venue for world championships, European championships, World Cups, and numerous national competitions.
For clay shooters, SSZ offers four combined facilities for trap and skeet, operating year-round for both sport and hunting training. Among the available disciplines are trap, skeet, compact sporting, and hunting parcours. Ammunition can be purchased on-site, and personal ammunition is also permitted. The range has instructors for clay shooting, with courses available for beginners and individual lessons.
In addition to clay disciplines, the complex features indoor ranges for air rifles (10 m), small caliber firearms (25 m and 50 m), large caliber firearms (25 m and 100 m), moving targets, as well as archery ranges. The shooting range hosts teams from the German Shooting Federation (DSB) and international junior competitions organized by ISSF.
On the premises, there is the Olympia Hotel Suhl (22 rooms) with a restaurant, free Wi-Fi, and parking — a convenient solution for athletes during multi-day training camps. SSZ is suitable for both first-time experiences in clay shooting and preparation for top-level competitions.
