Rotorua Rod & Gun Club
About
Rotorua Rod & Gun Club — a shooting range for clay target shooting, located in the Kapenga area near Rotorua, New Zealand. Established in 1917, the club is a member of the New Zealand Clay Target Association (NZCTA) and positions itself as the premier venue for clay shooters in the region — from beginners to international-level athletes.
The range offers a wide variety of clay target shooting disciplines: DTL, Olympic skeet, compact sporting, English sporting, ABT, and a unique local discipline called Gully — shooting over deep gullies against a backdrop of pine forest. During major competitions, the venue can set up to 16 fields. The traps are fully automated Promatic and Laporte, regularly updated through grant funding.
The club is a regular host of the FITASC Oceania Sporting Championship and the New Zealand Clay Target Championship.
The club offers shotgun and ammunition rentals, beginner training, junior programs, corporate events, and themed parties. Amenities include a clubhouse with hot meals during competitions, an EFTPOS terminal, and on-site ammunition sales. The range is suitable for both first-time experiences with clay target shooting and serious preparation for Oceania-level competitions.
