Mendip Shooting Ground

Mendip Shooting Ground — a family-friendly shooting range near Wells (Somerset, England), established in 1950. Nestled in the Mendip Hills valley, it caters to both beginners and experienced clay shooters, and serves as a training base for the Millfield School team, regularly hosting CPSA-registered competitions.

Clay shooting is the primary focus of the range. Four specially designed layouts cover over 30 acres and are equipped with more than 70 automatic traps. Available disciplines include sporting — the layout is situated in a natural valley with varying angles and heights for the clay targets; skeet; DTL; five-stand; ABT for experienced shooters; and FITASC. Due to planning restrictions regarding noise, only Mendip branded cartridges are permitted on the range.

The clubhouse is spread over three floors: the first floor features the Mendip Kitchen Café restaurant, reception, Avalon Guns shop, and changing rooms with toilets (including accessible facilities); the second floor has conference rooms and meeting spaces; and the basement houses an indoor range for air rifles and a covered 100-meter rifle range. Outside, there are facilities for airgun shooting (Field Target / Hunter Field Target) and archery. Qualified instructors provide training for all levels, including "try it first" packages with shotgun rentals and cartridges.

The range is suitable for corporate events, hen parties, and children's parties. Club membership offers discounted rates for training and series.
