John A. Halter Shooting Sports Center
About
The John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center is located at 4390 Bankers Road in Hillsdale, Michigan, USA, approximately eight kilometers from the main campus of Hillsdale College. The 46-acre complex has been the official training base for the USA Shooting team since 2019.
Trap shooting is the primary focus of the range. The facility features five Olympic trap fields, four skeet fields, and a 23-station sporting course built around an old quarry with diverse terrain—from dense woods to open slopes. The range regularly hosts FITASC competitions, including the Michigan State Championship for FITASC and Super Sporting. Junior and adult championships for skeet and trap are also held here, along with Junior Olympic Development Camps led by current and former Olympians.
The Nimrod complex includes 60 indoor lanes for air rifles (10 m), 24 lanes for small-bore rifles (50 m), 12 indoor pistol lanes (50 ft), as well as archery shooting areas. The Ailes Action Range features four pistol bays at 27 m, one bay at 36 m, and a rifle lane at 91 m. The AcuSport Grille restaurant operates year-round. There are cottages available for competition guests. Courses for beginners, private instruction, and youth programs are offered. The range is suitable for both first-time experiences in trap shooting and preparation for international competitions.
