Ben Avery Clay Target Center
About
Ben Avery Clay Target Center is a public shooting range for clay target shooting located in North Phoenix, Arizona, USA. It is part of the Ben Avery Shooting Facility, which spans 667 acres and is managed by the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD). Membership is not required — the range is open to all who wish to participate. The range offers a wide variety of clay target shooting disciplines: trap (including doubles and wobble trap), Olympic trap (bunker), skeet, international skeet, sporting, and five-stand. There are 16 illuminated fields with voice-activated machines for trap and skeet. Sporting is represented by four separate courses of varying difficulty, including the 8-station "Executive Quail Course" — an ideal option for beginners. Five-stand is held monthly on the first and third Thursday. One of the fields is adapted for shooters with limited mobility. The infrastructure includes an air-conditioned clubhouse (OneAZ Credit Union pavilion), sunshade canopies, water stations, and full-hookup camper sites. The clubhouse offers shotgun rentals, safety glasses, and ear protection, as well as ammunition sales. The range provides informal instruction and regularly hosts registered competitions. There is also a registration point for visitors to the open shooting areas for archery. Ben Avery Clay Target Center is suitable for both first-time experiences in clay target shooting and preparation for high-level competitions — from basic trap to Olympic bunker and international skeet.
